"Too loud, too reckless, too ghetto!" Samuel L. Jackson, as Uncle Sam, yelled at one point during the show. Black Americans have always resisted white supremacy through music. Last night, Kendrick Lamar showed America who we are.
With the formation of the American flag with his Black dancers, those men did not hesitate to represent how this country was built on the backs of Black Americans.
The call out to the revolution. "The revolution about to be televised. You picked the right time but the wrong guy".
The reference of how Black Americans navigate American life through the " Great American game".
"Scorekeeper, deduct one life!"
The protestor with the Sudan and Gaza flag.
Lastly, "GAME OVER". Black Americans are done playing by America's rules.
Storytelling is Black resistance. As America tries to rid itself of Black existence, one thing is for sure: WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. Resistance and resilience is in our blood. And we will win. The revolution WILL be televised. Black lives matter is the bare minimum. Black lives are needed. The world does not move without Black creativity and excellence. Black history is not only America's history; it's the world's history. Happy Black History Month!
